BENDA Denise

Denise Benda, born in Sao Paulo/Brazil, comes from a family of musicians rich in tradition.

Trained by her father, pianist Sebastian Benda, she went on to study at the Musikhochschule Wien with Paul Badura-Skoda, the Musikakademie Basel with Rudolf Buchbinder and the Britten-Pears-School/Aldeburgh with Murray Perahia.

Denise Benda has performed in 20 countries and appeared in major concert halls such as the Musikverein Vienna, the Liszt Academy Budapest, the Palace of Culture in Prague, the Barbican Centre in London, the Conservatoire Royale in Brussels and the Teatro Sistina in Rome.

She has also taken part in international music festivals such as the Festival International de Piano La Roque d’Anthéron, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Semaine Internationale de Piano Blonay and the Orford Music Festival in Canada.

In 2003, she founded the “Berengaria” International Chamber Music Festival in Cyprus and was its artistic director for ten years.

Chamber music has always played a leading role in her artistic activity. She has been a member of various chamber music ensembles and has collaborated with many important artists such as Josef Suk, Tibor Varga, Evgenia Tschugajeva and Isabelle Faust.

Denise Benda is a dedicated teacher: for many years, she has taught piano chamber music at the renowned “Musik und Kunst Universitat der Stadt Wien” (MUK), and regularly gives master classes in Austria, Switzerland, Croatia, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil and Argentina.

Many of her students have won prizes at international chamber music competitions in recent years. In 2012, she was appointed Professor of Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg. In 2012, she was appointed Professor of Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg.
