Born into a family of musicians, Balázs Dolfin began playing the cello at the age of 4. In 2010, at the age of 12, he was admitted to the department for exceptionally gifted students at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Over the following years, he won numerous awards and first prizes at international competitions in Austria, Italy and Croatia. He obtained his master’s degree under the supervision of Professor Wen-Sinn Yang at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.
Balázs has given numerous recitals across Europe and performed in many Hungarian concert halls. In 2017, he won the Junior Príma prize, the most prestigious award for Hungarian artists.
In 2021, he won 1st prize in the Virtuoso & Belcanto competition and was invited to give several concerts in Italy the following year. For the 2022 season, he joins the cello section of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In January 2023, he won second prize in the Leó Weiner chamber music competition and the special prize for the best interpretation of Weiner.
In 2022, Balázs Dolfin was one of the students selected at Munich’s University of Music and Performing Arts to take part in Europe’s highest soloist diploma, the ‘Meisterklasse Zertifikatstudium’ with Professor Wen-Sinn, from whom he recently graduated with distinction.
He currently performs regularly throughout Europe with his cello and piano duo, the Dolfin-Lin Duo, which he founded in 2022 with his chamber music partner Tony Chen Lin.
