Philip Karmanov (2004) began taking piano lessons at the age of six. In 2016, he was admitted to the Utrecht Academy of Musical Talent, where he studied for five years with Marjès Benoist.
Since 2022, he has been studying for a bachelor’s degree with Frank van de Laar at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam. He has taken masterclasses with Dominique Merlet, Jacques Rouvier, Andreas Frolich, Leslie Howard and Rena Shereshevskaya, among others.
Philip Karmanov won first prize at the 2019 YPF Piano Competition, third prize at the national final of the 2021 Prinses Christina Competition, first prize and the prize for best performance of a contemporary work at the 2023 Netherlands Piano Competition, and second prize at the 2024 Sanremo International Piano Competition.
Philip Karmanov has performed extensively in his home country and abroad. His repertoire includes solo pieces, chamber music and several concertos, ranging from Baroque to contemporary.
